  • SWELL SCULPTURE FESTIVAL 2026 CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

    Thank you for your interest in joining the SWELL team. Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to connect with artists, meet like-minded people, and immerse yourself in the creative, energetic atmosphere of the festival.

    We’re excited to be presenting the 24th year of SWELL and look forward to sharing this special milestone with you.

    After you have registered to volunteer we will email you information and keep in touch until the exhibition.

     
    Please make time to attend one of the briefing sessions. These sessions are designed to inform you about working with SWELL and offer insights into the artists exhibiting, artistic programs plus events and safety information.
     
    Session One - Virtual Online
    Date: Wednesday, 12th August 2026
    Time: 6pm
    Where: Beaming onto your device - virtual meeting online through ZOOM meeting. You will be sent a link when your registration is processed.

    Session Two - Face to Face
    Date: Saturday, 15th August 2026
    Time: 10am
    Where: Currumbin RSL, Currumbin Creek Rd, Currumbin.

    You only need to attend one of these meetings.
     
    It's a great opportunity to ask questions and learn about what is happening at SWELL 2026.

  • ABOUT YOU

    Please complete the following questions which will inform the roster and assist with coordinating the volunteer availability.

  • Volunteer Roles - Join the Crew

    Our Artists and suppliers rely on our support and together we make a dynamic team to bring this event together. As a SWELL volunteer you are on the front line of connecting people, art and place. Tick as many boxes as you like to demonstrate areas you are interested in.
  • Currumbin General Exhibition Volunteer
    Provide assistance at the designated SWELL Information Hubs, greeting visitors, offering information about What’s On, and assisting with program  and raffle ticket sales. This role also includes collecting surveys & voting forms, water and sunscreen runs, general help, and a welcome smile.

    Currumbin Site Crew
    Requires hard yakka and strength to keep the site safe and looking pristine. It will involve shoveling and maintenance on sculpture sites and restorative work on signs, tents, flags, banners, managing bins and more.

    Currumbin Sculpture Patrol Volunteer
    Provide a presence to encourage positive interaction with the sculptures and assist in monitoring the site during peak periods.

    Currumbin Evening Volunteer - Sculpture Patrol and Information Liason
    Assist with evening activities such as twilight walks, video projection, marquee activities and lighting, selling programs and safety of audience.

    SWELL Smalls Gallery Volunteer - Currumbin Beach
    Assisting in the Smalls Gallery with general duties, sales and information.

    SWELL Smalls Gallery Volunteer - Painting
    Prior to the main exhibition, the sculpture plinths need repainting. Spend a day or 2 at the SWELL Currumbin office the week before beach bump-in.

    SWELL Fringe Festival General Volunteer - Wallace Nicoll Park, Currumbin Beach
    Provide a SWELL presence at our Fringe Festival events and help out where required.

    SWELL Fringe Festival Bar Crew - Wallace Nicoll Park, Currumbin Beach
    Hep out behind the bar serving drinks at our evening events. QLD RSA Certificate required.

    SWELL Kids Elements General Volunteer - Len Wort Park, Currumbin Beach
    Provide a SWELL presence at our SWELL Kids Elements, Education & Wellness and help out where required.

    Pop-up SWELL Locations - TBC
    We will be in touch with locations and dates for 2026 SWELL pop-ups.

    While we will always try to allocate your preferred volunteer role there may be instances when we may need you to cover other areas such as the general exhibition area. We ask for your understanding in this instance.

  • Availability

  • SWELL Sculpture Festival is open to the public from Friday 11 September - Sunday 20 September 2026. We also require assistance on the days before and after the event. Indicate your availability by selecting your day and time from the drop down box.

    In order to receive the Volunteer Kit including the t-shirt & vouchers you will need to volunteer for at least 2 - 3 shifts and we ask that you arrive 10 minutes before your shift.

    Shifts are:

    8am - 1pm
    12:30pm - 5:30pm
    5pm - 9pm (exlcuding SWELL Kids Elements)

     

    Volunteers who commit to three or more shifts are entitled to receive the full volunteer pack including:

    • An official SWELL exhibition program
    • A Swell T-shirt and lanyard 
    • Complimentary coupons from nearby retailers
    • An invitation to the Volunteer After Party

    • Opportunities to meet the SWELL Team, catch up with old friends and make new friends.

  • SWELL  Sculpture Festival is committed to providing a healthy, safe and secure environment to deliver an exhibition of sculpture and public programming.

    All Volunteers must complete an online safety induction that outlines key points to ensure that volunteers can keep themselves and others healthy, safe, and secure while working within SWELL Sculpture Festival.

    Following the briefing sessions, you will be sent a link to the online safety induction for completion.
