  • SCHEDULE C - EXPENSES (FULL CATEGORIES)

  • Enter TOTAL amounts for each category. Attach or retain receipts, invoices, statements, and logs to support each amount.
  • Section 179 Expense Deduction (Brief Description)
The Section 179 Deduction allows taxpayers who own a business to deduct the full or partial cost of qualifying equipment and business property in the same year it is purchased and placed into service, rather than depreciating the asset over several years.

This deduction is designed to help small businesses recover the cost of business investments more quickly by reducing taxable income in the year the equipment or property is bought.

Common items that may qualify include:

Business vehicles used more than 50% for business
    Computers, laptops, and office equipment
Machinery and tools used in business operations
    Office furniture and equipment
Certain software used for business purposes
To qualify, the property must be purchased, placed into service during the tax year, and used primarily for business (more than 50%).

    Example:
If a taxpayer purchases a $5,000 laptop for their business, they may be able to deduct the entire $5,000 in the current tax year instead of spreading the deduction over several years.
