ASSET Cohort 5 Application
  • ASPIRING STATEWIDE SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS PROGRAM (ASSET)

    Cohort 5, 2026-2027
  • Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the ASSET Program provided by the Indiana Council of Administrators of Special Education (ICASE).  This program is a yearlong experiential program requiring your attendance at an in-person 2-day bootcamp (held in Noblesville, on July 21st and 22nd, 2026) as well as a full day per month (over Zoom) from August 2026 through May of 2027.  At the successful completion of the ASSET program, participants will meet the requirements to sit for the respective Special Education Praxis Exam(s).  This program offers monthly support to you regarding special education practices while you are immersed in a classroom with the support of a locally chosen mentor.  During the program, you must serve as a Special Education Teacher of Record for a caseload of students matching the license you are working toward given the experiential nature of the program.

ADDITONALLY, per recent Indiana Statute, all teachers going through ASSET must also acquire their literacy endorsement to apply for the final special education license afforded by ASSET.  As a part of ASSET, we now offer a pathway for teachers to meet this 80-hour literacy requirement and related Praxis exam (if you are still in need of the literacy endorsement).

Please share the following assurances document with your Director of Special Education so they understand all their required commitments.  They will be required to E-Sign this document as a part of your application submission.  They will recieve a copy automatically at the email you provide for them in your application.  ASSURANCES - CLICK HERE

We look forward to considering your application as we move into the fifth year of this program!  Thank you for applying!

    APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Please complete this application and the required uploads in one session and through one submission.  Most fields are required before you can move forward with submission.  ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE IN PDF FORMAT.  Please avoid uploading pictures of documents or word type documents.  They will not be accepted. Again, all documents must be in a PDF format.

    Required documents:

    • A copy of your active Professional Indiana Teaching License (this must be the official license with a State Superintendent Signature at the bottom).  You may print a copy of your license for free by logging into the LVIS system on the IDOE website where you apply and renew existing licenses.  A screenshot from the IDOE teacher lookup system will not suffice, we must have a copy of your signed license.  Special note, this is NOT your alternate permit, you must have an official teaching license in a content area to apply for this program.  The official teaching license is what we need to verify.
    • A copy of your most recent official teaching evaluation (if you are a newly licensed teacher, please upload your final student teaching evaluation to meet this requirement).  If you do not have either of these documents, please contact us before proceeding with this application.
    • Also, have available the name, email address and phone number of your Special Education Director as well as the name, email address and phone number of your Mentor (if different from your director) to complete the application.  It MUST be your district special education director or cooperative special education director for the purposes of this program (or their district level designee).  Make sure the director knows you are applying as they will receive an automated assurances form they will need to complete on your behalf.  This goes to them automatically when you click "submit" on this application.
    • We no longer require a letter of recommendation from your special education director.

Your mentor CANNOT be a fellow teacher or building level administrator, it must be a district level director of special education, assistant director of special education or a district level special education supervisor.

Please refrain from submitting partial applications as they will not be processed and will be immediately denied.  If you do not have access to a required document, contact Dr. Arthur (Director) or Mrs. McIntosh (Assistant Director) at help@assetindiana.org or call 317-759-2895 for assistance before you make an application submission.  Again, partial applications will not be accepted.

You may ALSO schedule a time to connect over Zoom if that would be easier for you to answer any lingering questions you may have about the program or understanding better if it may be a fit for you! Please check availability by CLICKING HERE!

  • Your mentor for the program should be an administrator of special education.  In a small percentage of cases, the mentor will be someone other than the District or Cooperative Director.  Once you have discussed this with the Director you have listed above, please complete the following section if it is determined someone other than your director (a designee such as an assistant director, district level supervisor, or other similary trained individual) will be acting as your mentor.  Again - this should be a seasoned district administrator or supervisor of special education of some type.  Leave the next three items blank if the person above is serving as both your Director and Mentor.
