  • The Champion Project connects compassionate adults with youth in foster care living in staffed facilities through mentoring, tutoring, and literacy programs. This summer, we are offering unpaid internships as part of our Fostering Success initiative.

    Internship Details
    Interns will work with foster youth to strengthen their math and reading skills using our structured IXL learning program. Applicants must be atleast 16 years old to apply. This role requires:

    In-person commitment: 9 AM–11:30 AM on Tuesdays & Thursdays throughout the summer (6/9/26-7/30/26) at the Kevin Brady Community Center in The Woodlands. 

    (If you are not able to commit to the full summer, you may apply as a sub to fill in as needed)

    Preparation time: 30 minutes at home before each session.

    Selection Process:

    1. Complete the Application Form which includes a short essay explaining why you are interested in this opportunity.
    2. Participate in a 30-minute interview.
    3. Pass a background check (interns age 18+)


    Requirements (Once Selected)
    Before starting, interns must:

    1. Demonstrate knowledge of basic math and reading instruction (1st–11th grade).
    2. Commit to attending a minimum of 12 out of 16 of the scheduled summer dates.
    3. Complete 5+ hours of training (a combination of in-person and video-based) before the start date (June 9).
    4. Sign a Commitment Letter for the program.
    5. Sign The Champion Project Policy Agreements.
    6. Complete a background check (if 18+).

    7. Attend Kick Off and Training Session on May 11th. 

    Additional Information:
    The educational program we use is a structured, computer-based learning platform tailored to meet the needs of each student. Interns will not need to create their own lessons or materials but will be expected to familiarize themselves with the upcoming lessons and prepare for each session.

    This internship offers a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of youth in foster care while gaining valuable hands-on experience in education and mentorship.
