VISA Requirements:
US Citizens: US citizens visiting parts of Europe currently do not need a visa. The European Union introduced their Entry/Exit System (EES) in October 2025. It is scheduled to be fully implemented in all European Union countries by April 2026. The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is scheduled to go into effect 6 months after full implementation of the EES. The implementation of the EES may extend the time you will need for a connecting flight in an EU country the first time you enter the EU. Please plan your flights accordingly.

The Schengen Area is a zone of 26 European countries that do not have internal borders and allow people to move between them freely, including countries such as Spain, France, Greece, Germany, Italy, and Poland.

Visa-free travelers, including US citizens, will need to request ETIAS authorization before visiting the Schengen Area. You can complete an application and pay a service fee of 20 euros (about $24) online. The authorization will be valid for two years.

NON-US Citizens: Please contact the Embassy of the country that issued your passport for visa, EES, and/or ETIAS requirements & assistance.

The ETIAS is not currently in place, you will be notified when/if the ETIAS becomes required for US citizens traveling to the EU.

Cruise Only: Plan your departure from the US on June 25, 2027 to arrive in Basel, Switzerland (BSL) on June 26, 2027. Embarkation begins at 3:00 PM on the ship. The cruise will conclude in Amsterdam, Netherlands (AMS) on July 3, 2027. All guests should disembark by 9:00 am.

Pre-Cruise Tour & Cruise: Plan your departure from the US on June 21, 2025 to arrive in Zurich, Switzerland (ZHR) on June 22, 2027. The cruise will conclude in Amsterdam, Netherlands (AMS) on July 3, 2027. All guests should disembark by 9:00 am.

Cruise & Post-Cruise Tour: Plan your departure from the US on June 25, 2027 to arrive in Basel, Switzerland (BSL) on June 26, 2027. Embarkation begins at 3:00 PM on the ship. The tour will conclude in Amsterdam (AMS) on July 5, 2027. Guests can depart anytime on July 5, 2027.

Travel Insurance - US Citizens/Residents

We recommend that you purchase travel protection. Expanding Horizons offers a private group plan from Trawick International for US Citizens/legal residents currently living in the US. You can find the link to get a quote on the Travel Essentials page of the website. Our Group plan must be purchased prior to final payment to receive the Pre-Existing Medical Conditions Waiver. If you want to purchase a plan with Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage, then you must purchase an individual plan within 14 days of your deposit to qualify. It is the travelers responsibility to purchase travel insurance as travel protection is never automatically added to any reservation.

MOBILITY CLAUSE: A reasonable degree of mobility is required. Passengers may be required to ascend and descend flights of 12 or more stairs to board or exit the ship.

Persons with a walking disability, an injury, or who require a wheelchair/scooter or another mobility device, must have another dedicated person traveling with them to assist with their needs.

Entry/Exit System (EES): I understand that the European Union's Entry & Exit system will be in place by April 2026. US citizens will be required to obtain EES documentation upon arrival in any EU country.

European Travel Information & Authorization System (ETIAS): The ETIAS is scheuled to go into effect about 6 months after the EES is in full compliance. I understand that I will be responsible for securing my travel authorization prior to entering the EU. Starting sometime in late 2026, US citizens will be required to obtain ETIAS documentation prior to departing the US if entering an EU country.
