APPLICATION FOR BUILDING PERMIT

Application is hereby made for a certificate of compliance to erect/alter a structure as described herein or shown in accompanying plans and specifications, which structure is to be located as shown on the accompanying plot/plan. The information, which follows and the accompanying plans and specifications with the representation therein contained, is made a part of this application.

It is agreed and understood by this applicant that any error, misstatement or misrepresentation of material fact or expression of material fact, either with or without intention on the part of this applicant, such as might, or would, operate to cause a refusal of this application, or any material alteration or change in the accompanying plans, specifications or structure made subsequent to the issuance of a certificate, of compliance in accordance with this application, without approval of the City Building Inspector, shall constitute sufficient ground for the revocation of such certificate of compliance.

I understand that by claiming exempt status, I waive my rights for protection under the provisions of the Home Builders Licensure law and that in the event of litigation involving activities resulting from the grant of this permit, I may not make demand of any money from the Homeowner's Recovery Fund, established by the Home Builders Licensure law. I understand that my claim of exempt status does not exempt anyone who contracts with me to perform construction work on my residence from holding the required license when the total cost of the undertaking exceeds $10,000.00.

*Violation of the Alabama Home Builders Licensure Law is a Class A misdemeanor (Ala. Code 3414A-14) punishable by up to 12 months in jail and fines up to $6,000.00.

Dear Contractor:

The purpose of this document is to emphasize the importance of calling the Building Inspector for required inspections during the construction of your Building. Increasingly, lending institutions are requiring issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy by the City of Arab as a part of a requirement for mortgage qualifying.

It is the firm policy of the Building Inspector not to issue a Certificate of Occupancy if all required inspections have not been completed. Moreover, it is the responsibility of the contractor, or the homeowner serving as the contractor, to call the Building Inspector for required inspections.

Such calls should be placed at least 24 hours before the day of the inspection. However, occasionally the Building Inspector is willing to make an exception to this requirement.

For single-family residential construction, unless deficiencies are found, at least three inspections are required:

1. Footing inspection (prior to concrete pouring)
2. Rough-in (framing, electrical and plumbing prior to sheetrock and insulation)
3. Final inspection

If deficiencies are found during any of these inspections, the contractor or homeowner is responsible for calling the Building Inspector for a return inspection to inspect corrections. To avoid difficulties with financing and future owners you should take all inspection requirements seriously. Regardless of the size and type of construction, the City will not complete a final inspection once electrical and plumbing systems have been covered. A Certificate of Occupancy will not be issued without a satisfactory final inspection.

As an applicant for a building permit from the City of Arab, I hereby certify that I have read and understand the above:

I understand that it is my responsibility to notify the building inspector when an inspection is needed. I also, understand that under any circumstances no one shall occupy any building or portion of any building until a final inspection has been made and the building inspector has issued a certificate of occupancy.

Upon issuance of a building permit, the building inspector may visit the building site, or call the owner, or contractor if he feels that a significant amount of time has passed and no inspections have been called for.
