2026 PAGM Registration

Plein Air Grand Marais 2026 is open for registration!

Painters of all experience levels are welcome. Please self-select your participation experience:

Open Class Division

The Open Class division is intended for learning painters, those prefering to have more time to attend workshops, or artists who desire a more casual experience. Open Class artists may submit one painting for a Wednesday evening pop-up exhibit, judging, and awards reception.

Registration capacity for the Open Class is unlimited and remains open until Competition Week.

Competition Exhibit Division FULL

The Competition Exhibit division is limited to 60 painters due to gallery wall space. Registration is first come, first served. This division is intended for experienced painters who commit to submit four framed paintings for judging and for exhibition September 19 - November 1 at the Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery. An additional two paintings may be left in reserve for display after other works sell.

Competition Exhibit Division Waiting List

The 60-artist capacity for the Competition Exhibit division has been reached. Please join us in the Open Class division where we can welcome an unlimited number of additional painters.

If you would like to be added to the Competition Exhibit Waitlist, please select "Competition Exhibit" below. You will be registered in the Open Class for now, and contacted by email if a space opens. Life happens and some spaces usually open before September. They will be filled in order based on date/time of application.

Additional Details

The non-refundable application fee for all participants is $45.

Plein Air Grand Marais is organized by artists, for artists. We have an educational focus on painters' development and camaraderie. To balance our interest in maintaining a top-tier event with experienced painters and learning artists alike, we encourage painters to self-select their appropriate division.

All registered artists may paint in the Quick Paint, register for workshops, attend paint-outs and artist socials with their guests, and receive VIP admission to the final reception at JHP.
