  • I want to share something important and personal with you because I trust you. I’ve experienced sexual violence, and I’m navigating the aftermath right now. I don’t need you to fix anything I just need your support, understanding, and presence as I move through this. It would mean a lot to know I’m not carrying this alone.

I wanted to let you know that I’ve gone through something difficult recently involving sexual violence. I’m taking the steps I need to care for myself and continue my education. I don’t want to go into details, but your understanding and kindness would mean a great deal to me during this time.

I’m sharing this briefly to keep you informed. I’ve experienced sexual violence and am currently prioritizing my wellbeing and recovery. I’m supported and handling this in the way that feels right for me. I appreciate your respect for my privacy.

You Deserve Academic Justice and Grace. Here is a Template you can use:
  • Option 1:

    Dear Professor,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share that I am experiencing circumstances affecting my academic participation that are protected under Title IX. I have experienced sexual violence, and I am reaching out to request your support in accessing reasonable academic accommodations.

Specifically, I am requesting an extension on applicable coursework without academic penalty. I deeply appreciate your understanding, guidance, and discretion as I navigate this situation.

This message is limited in scope. Reporting remains my decision, and no further disclosure is required to implement accommodations under Title IX.

Thank you for your time and for being a supportive part of my academic journey. Please let me know if coordination with the Title IX office is needed or if there are next steps I should follow.

    Option 2:

    Dear Professor,

I am writing to provide notice of circumstances affecting my academic participation that are protected under Title IX. I have experienced sexual violence and am requesting an extension on applicable coursework without academic penalty.

This message is limited in scope. Reporting remains solely my decision, and no additional disclosure is required to implement accommodations.

Please confirm next steps or advise if coordination with the Title IX office is needed. Thank you for your professionalism and discretion.

    Option 3:

    Dear Professor,

This email serves as formal notice of circumstances affecting my academic participation that are protected under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. I have experienced sexual violence. As a result, I am entitled to reasonable academic adjustments to ensure continued, equitable access to my education. I am therefore requesting an extension on applicable coursework, without academic penalty. This communication is limited in scope and intent. Reporting remains solely my decision, and nothing in this notice initiates or implies a formal complaint. No additional disclosure is required or warranted for the implementation of accommodations under Title IX. Institutions committed to academic excellence and societal progress do not require survivors to choose between dignity and education. In a just and evolved academic environment, support is procedural, respect is assumed, and access is preserved as a matter of course. I look forward to moving ahead with the appropriate academic adjustments in place. Please confirm implementation or indicate if coordination with the Title IX office is required. Thank you for your professionalism and discretion.
