    Scholarship Application

     

  • The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The
    membership consists of more than 16,000 professional women of color who operate 288 regional chapters in the United States and abroad. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations with a distinct commitment to strengthen and enrich the cultural and economic well-being of African American communities using strategies such as fundraising, education, advocacy, and volunteering.

    Established in 1966, the Tacoma (WA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated has been a cornerstone in promoting educational excellence and community service. The Tacoma (WA) Chapter is dedicated to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other people of African ancestry in the greater Puget Sound area. Over the years, the Tacoma (WA) Chapter has made significant contributions through various initiatives, including awarding scholarships to deserving high school seniors. The chapter's commitment to education and civic engagement has had a lasting impact on the Black community in Tacoma, fostering opportunities for academic achievement and personal growth among its youth.

     

     

     

    Eligibility Requirements: 

    1. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen of African American descent.
    2. Applicant must be pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited 4-year college/university or technical training at an accredited technical college or trade school. (online degrees and for-profit trade schools do not qualify.)
    3. Applicant must be graduating from high school and continuing his/her educational training in the fall following high school graduation.
    4. Applicant must reside in the greater Puget Sound area including, but not limited to, Pierce County, Kitsap County, South King County, and Thurston County.
    5. Applicant must be accepted and enrolled at an educational institution on a full-time basis as defined by institution of attendance.
    6. Applicant must have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
    7. Handwritten and/or incomplete applications will not be accepted and will disqualify the applicant. A complete application packet includes a completed application form, required essays, three letters of recommendation, a front-facing facial only photo, and transcript.

     

    Application Requirements:

    1. The complete application package should be submitted by April 20, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST.
    2. The scholarship committe will only accept one submission per applicant.
    3. Two of the three letters of recommendation must be from a teacher, counselor, or principal. The third letter may be from anyone other than a family member.
