  • Michael Todd Long Memorial Scholarship

    The Shelby County Community Charity was founded following the diagnosis of a young boy, Michael Todd Long, with an inoperable brain tumor. Since his passing, we have celebrated Michael and the enduring influence he had on Shelby County. We aim to honor his legacy through the Michael Todd Long Memorial Scholarship. Michael embodied courage, empathy, strength, determination, and a unique character. This scholarship is awarded each year to a senior from Shelby County who exemplifies the qualities we all cherish in Michael.
  • Award Amount: $2,500

    Eligibility: Open to graduating high school seniors that live in Shelby County who plan to pursue higher education at an accredited college or university.

    Due By: May 12th, 2026

    Criteria for Selection: Applicants will be evaluated based on how they reflect Michael's values and life:

    • Leadership and Courage: Demonstrating the ability to inspire others, tackle challenges head-on, and make a positive impact in the community, much like Michael did.
    • Community Engagement: Engaging actively in volunteer efforts or projects that enhance Shelby County, showcasing Miachel's passion for service.
    • Legacy of Kindness: Leaving a lasting impact through acts of compassion and generosity.

    This scholarship not only supports educational aspirations, but also serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration. It encourages students to embrace their individuality and strive for excellence, much like Michael did. By investing in these young scholars, Shelby County Community Charity continues to uphold the values that Michael cherished, ensuring that his legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of all who are touched by his story. Through this initiative, we celebrate the power of kindness and the profound difference it can make in the world.
