• Roots Dojo

    Code of Conduct
  • Welcome to Roots Dojo! Our goal is to provide a safe, professional, and supportive environment where all participants can learn and grow. To ensure a positive experience for everyone, all participants are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct:

    Respect and Professionalism

We value respect above all. Every participant is expected to:

    • Treat instructors, staff, and fellow participants with courtesy and professionalism.
    • Refrain from harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or abusive behavior.
    • Engage in physical contact only as instructed during training exercises.

Respect is not just about others — it also includes the space we train in and the community that makes it possible.

Roots Dojo operates within a cooperative land project (COHO), a shared living environment made up of neighbours, friends, and families. Participants are expected to act with care and consideration toward the land, shared facilities, residents, and equipment. Please clean up after yourself, respect shared spaces, and report any damage or concerns immediately.

    Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge that Roots Dojo trains, learns, and grows on unceded COHO territories. We recognize the responsibility that comes with training on this land and ask all participants to conduct themselves with awareness, humility, and respect for the land and the community that surrounds it.

    Safety First

Your safety and the safety of others is a priority. Please:

    • Follow all instructions and safety guidelines provided by instructors.
    • Report injuries, unsafe conditions, or concerns immediately.
    • Use equipment properly and responsibly.

Safety also includes mental and emotional awareness: stay attentive, focused, and mindful during training.

    Attendance and Participation

Consistent attendance and active participation help everyone get the most out of the program.

    • Arrive on time, dressed appropriately, and ready to participate.
    • Notify staff ahead of time if you cannot attend a session.
    • Repeated absences, tardiness, or lack of participation will impact the overall training experience.
