Leadership Skills. Coxswains who display outstanding (5) leadership skills have the respect of their crews and coaches to problem solve and make independent decisions on and off the water.

Ability to Effectively Manage Practice. Coxswains who display outstanding (5) practice management skills are trusted to run workouts from beginning to end with little to no coach direction.

Boat Maneuverability Skills. Coxswains who display outstanding (5) boat maneuverability skills have excellent spacial awareness and can place their crew/hull exactly where it needs to be, even in poor conditions.

Ability to foster trust with coaches & crews. Coxswains who display outstanding (5) trust skills have the ability to be both coach and teammate at the same time. They know what information to share with their crew while also understanding that they are often privy to extra information from the coach that may or may not need to be passed on to the rowers in their boat.

Steering Skills. Coxswains who display outstanding (5) steering skills always know where they are in their space, are aware of other crews and hazards and always prioritize safety.

Racing Ability. Coxswains who display outstanding (5) racing ability own the race day from beginning to end. They manage their time and their crew efficiently, are calm and collected under pressure, execute the agreed upon race plan while also knowing when to adapt to changing race situations.
