Now is more important than ever for CMU to reaffirm its longstanding values and act accordingly. ICE continues to act illegally, extrajudicially separating families and strategically targeting immigrant communities. A university that values human dignity cannot remain neutral while our loved ones live under threat of detention and deportation.
We call for Colorado Mesa University officials and officers to refuse cooperation and collaboration with ICE or any other militarized Federal forces.
Join other universities across the country who have instituted explicit sanctuary campus policies: Such as reaffirming current admission and financial aid policies regarding undocumented students, guaranteeing student privacy by refusing to release information regarding citizenship status, and refusal to comply with illegal ICE activity or raids.
Issue a public statement reaffirming Colorado Mesa University’s commitment to support and protection of all its students and faculty regardless of their citizenship status, religion, ethnicity or national origin.
To protect CMU’s students and staff, we urge CMU to act on these proposals as a campus community. We call on the university to stand with the Hispanic community and all those targeted by discrimination, and to commit to a sanctuary campus free of fear or hate speech so that all students can achieve their greatest potential.
