• L.A. Affairs Live: Auditions

Tell a true, personal dating story about starting fresh in front of a live voting audience on April 3, 2026.
  • The Los Angeles Times invites you to audition for our first L.A. Affairs Live competition. Seven to 10 storytellers will be selected to perform 5- to 7-minute relationship stories related to the theme of "Starting Fresh." A live audience will choose the winner. The winner will get a written version of their story published as an L.A. Affairs column and receive a $400 payment.

    To audition, please submit:

    1) A YouTube link to a 5- to 7-minute recording of you sharing your story. The video can be published or unlisted on YouTube. Vimeos, Google Drive links and TikTok or Instagram links are not acceptable. Your camera must be on.

    2) A transcript of your tape pasted into the field below the YouTube link.

    Requirements:

    1) Stories must be true. No fake names, exaggeration, fictional or composite characters or hyperbole for the sake of dramatic effect.

    2) Before submitting, make sure you are available for the show on April 3, 2026 at the Cinegrill at the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel (7000 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles). Storytellers must arrive by 5:45 p.m. and stay until the show ends, around 9:30 p.m.

    3) Storytellers must be based in the Greater Los Angeles area.

    4) Storytellers must be willing to appear in all media related to this event with their first and last names listed, including written coverage, videography and photography.
