  • We’ve had a HUGE...actually...an EXTRAORDINARY season, and it’s all thanks to our incredible members who stepped up, showed up, and gave their time, energy, and heart to our club and community.

    The ways our volunteers contribute are endless and exceptionally difficult to capture.

    Now...it’s time to recognise these volunteer efforts.

    Whether it was lending a hand behind the scenes, leading with positivity, or consistently showing up when it mattered most, this is your chance to say thank you.

    ALL CLUB MEMBERS are invited to nominate the amazing members who meet the criteria for these awards:

    • Hadn and Jann Hood Youth Lifesaver of the Year
    • Ray & Doreen Kelly Lifesaver of the Year
    • Albany SLSC Education and Training Award
    • Tony Bush Boatie of the Year Perpetual Trophy
    • Albany SLSC Most Improved – Surf Sports
    • Nipper Program Volunteer of the Year
    • Terry Engledow Endeavour Award
    • David Smith Memorial Trophy Club Person of the Year 

    Nominations close on 16 March February 2026

    You can nominate a member for more than one award category.

    Finalists will be announced by the Honours & Awards Committee in the RIP.
    Winners will be announced at the Albany SLSC Annual Dinner on Friday 24 April 2026.

  • AWARD CRITERIA

    Hadn and Jann Hood Youth Lifesaver of the Year

    The Hadn and Jann Hood Youth Lifesaver of the Year is awarded to a financial youth member aged 13 – 17 years in recognition of their outstanding involvement, development and commitment across all aspects of the Club including:

    • SLSA Awards obtained
    • Lifesaving achievements
      • Patrol attendance and participation,
      • Performance on patrol – Rescues, first aid, initiative
      • Positive engagement with other members & the community
      • Water safety – regular club activities, community events
      • Mentoring and support of SRC surf lifesavers
    • General volunteering within the Club including but not limited to the Flags Up Kiosk, events, fundraising, Woodside Nippers, coaching, AGM, officiating, leadership and development camps, community events and programs.
  • AWARD CRITERIA
    Ray & Doreen Kelly Lifesaver of the Year

    The Ray & Doreen Kelly Lifesaver of the Year is awarded to a financial senior member in recognition of their outstanding involvement and commitment to lifesaving operations within the Club. Consideration is given to:

    • SLSA Awards obtained and held
    • Patrol attendance and participation
    • Performance on patrols - Rescues, first aid, use of initiative whilst performing lifesaving services
    • Positive engagement with other members and the community
    • Mentoring and support of younger and inexperienced surf lifesavers
    • Emergency Services
    • Water safety – regular club activities and community events
  • AWARD CRITERIA
    Albany SLSC Education and Training Award

    This award is presented to a financial member who has demonstrated outstanding services in the field of training, assessing of club and community members in recognised SLSA and related awards. Examples of services:

    • Gaining qualifications in Training and Assessment
    • Delivering training
    • Assessing member Skills Maintenance
    • Assessing award candidates in Albany and other SLS clubs
    • Mentoring other Trainers and Assessors
    • Attending annual Professional Development courses
    • Providing training in CPR/First Aid to other organisations

    Exceptional trainers are recognised for their skill in maintaining quality standards while being sensitive to the diversity in skills, knowledge and confidence of new and inexperienced members. Consideration is also given to participation, leadership and development in officiating activities.

  • AWARD CRITERIA
    Tony Bush Boatie of the Year Perpetual Trophy

    The Tony Bush Boatie of the Year Award is awarded to a financial member who has demonstrated outstanding services to the sport of surf boats. Individual skill sets within the sport can be diverse and the Club recognises that outstanding service may manifest itself in areas such as:

    • Coaching
    • Fundraising
    • Maintenance
    • Education
    • Repairs
    • Recruitment
    • Events Management

    However, in the end the award will always go to that member who has tirelessly worked towards maximum participation, teamwork and safe and challenging experiences for all members: i.e. Bums on seats.

  • AWARD CRITERIA
    Albany SLSC Most Improved – Surf Sports

    The Albany SLSC Most Improved is awarded to a financial youth or senior member who, through commitment to their surf sports training, has shown significant improvement in one or more of the SLS disciplines including:

    • Beach – flags, sprint, running
    • Water – surf race, board, ski, surfboats, iron person 

    Evidence of improvement will be demonstrated by results achieved at club, regional, state and/or national level surf sports events.

  • AWARD CRITERIA
    Nipper Program Volunteer of the Year

    This award recognises the achievement(s) and contribution(s) of a financial member within the club in respect to the Woodside Nippers Program this season. This could be a member who gets involved in one or more of the following program areas:

    • Helps set up, pack up and supports general running of nipper activities, 
    • Takes on an important role (Nipper Coordinator, Age Group Manager, Assistant AGM, Nipper Training Coordinator, Recorder)
    • Provides water safety
    • Officiates on the beach
    • Coaches a specific skill area
    • Helps in the Flags Up Kiosk
    • Helps with administration duties on club days or behind the scenes
  • AWARD CRITERIA
    Terry Engledow Endeavour Award

    The Terry Engledow Endeavour Award is presented to a financial member who shows great endeavour and volunteer spirit throughout the season. This member is an allrounder who consistently puts in great effort and steps up to support and assist members across all areas of the club including but not limited to:

    • Admin, leadership, project management, planning, community engagement
    • Education (training and assessing)
    • Lifesaving (patrol operations, emergency response, first aid, radios)
    • Member Services (merch, membership and registrations, media, club photography, fundraising)
    • House (Flags Up Kiosk, catering, club maintenance, Beebe Bulk Bar)
    • Events (social, competition, community)
    • Surf Sports (Woodside Nippers, youth, seniors, masters, training, competition, officials, gear and equipment, swim, boards, skis, beach, boats, events)
  • AWARD CRITERIA
    David Smith Memorial Trophy Club Person of the Year

    The David Smith Memorial Trophy is awarded to a financial member who has shown exceptional commitment to upholding the values of the Club & worked tirelessly for the benefit of the Club & its members.

    • Think about who has made a positive difference to your surf club experience this season
    • Provide as much detail as possible (dot point is great)
    • Don’t assume the Honours & Awards Committee knows everything about the member/s that you’re nominating.
