INTRODUCTION
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is an international organization of more than 390,000 college-trained women with a common goal to improve human life through service to others. There are more than 1,100 chapters in the United States, Liberia, the Bahamas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Germany, South Korea, Bermuda, Japan, Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Ghana and in the Middle East.
The Sorority’s purpose is:
- to encourage high school scholastic and ethical standards,
- to promote unity and friendship among college women,
- to study and alleviate problems affecting girls and women,
- to promote higher education, and
- to be of service to all mankind.
Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated presents the Debutante Ball biennially as a means of encouraging high scholastic achievement among young ladies.
The Debutante Ball is an avenue used to introduce deserving and outstanding young ladies as Debutantes to Kansas City society in a formal setting. A Debutante is a young lady who has been prepared in the social graces, trained to dance formally, and who is community service oriented. She is then presented to her community in a formal presentation, which is her first public appearance in society.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for presentation, a young lady must:
- Be a high school senior or a college freshman during the 2026-2027 school year.
- Have a cumulative grade average of C+ (2.75) or higher on a 4.0-point system.
- Not be pregnant before/during the Debutante Ball season, never have had a child and never been married or engaged.
- Have not been presented in the Cotillion, Jabberwock, Rhomania, Miss Teen or beauty pageants after the age of fourteen (14) years. (Activities sponsored by a church or secondary school are not included.)
FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS
The presentation fee is $700 and must be paid in full. The fee covers the cost of selected photographs and other activities sponsored by the sorority for the Debutantes during the Debutante Ball season. (Specific dates will be provided during the Parent Orientation in June):
First payment ($250.00) Due June 27, 2026
Second payment ($250.00) Due July 11, 2026
Third payment ($200.00) Due July 25, 2026
ESCORTS
The Debutante should choose her own escort and should do so carefully. He should:
- Have a reputation of good character and conduct.
- Have never been married.
- Be under 21 years of age, but not younger than 16 years of age.
- Have good personal grooming.
- Be willing to pay the tuxedo rental fee.
- Be willing to attend all rehearsals and other events as scheduled.
- Have not fathered a child.
Parents of Debutantes should make an effort to know the escort and his parents in order to ascertain his suitability.
FORMAL DRESS
The dresses for the Debutantes will be purchased from an establishment selected by the Sorority. A dress showing and payment schedule for the purchase of the dresses will be made during the Mother/Debutante Orientation in August.
SOUVENIR BOOKLET, ADS AND SCHOLARSHIPS
To be eligible for scholarships, each Debutante will be responsible for securing a minimum of $1,600.00 in advertisements and/or patrons for the souvenir journal. The souvenir booklet will be available at the Debutante Ball.
