Artist-organised solo and group exhibitions are emphasised in this gallery.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Chapel Gallery is a rental space designed as a venue for artists who, for example:
- Wish to present their work in a gallery but do not yet meet the requirements for juried spaces;
- Are curators;
- Community art groups;
- Individual artists.
The gallery (click link for plan) has 9' ceilings and six walls of varied dimensions.
Artists may offer their work for sale, sales are processed at a lower rate, 20% fee.
Exhibitions run concurrently with the main gallery schedule and as such, the number of weeks will vary (min. 4 weeks).
Exhibiting artists are welcome to join with the main gallery openings, and/or host their own reception on another Saturday during open hours, in agreement with the gallery.
Artists are welcome to offer a public program during their exhibition (talk, q&a, tour, for example) in agreement with the gallery.
FEE:
Chapel Gallery exhibitions are subject to a rental fee.
- $225 for ARTSPLACE members* (groups/collectives are to be organisation members to get the member rate)
- $300 for non-members.
- Rental fees are subject to an additional $50 security deposit, refundable once nail/screw holes are filled/sanded/painted, and any pencil marks are removed. The gallery will retain the $50 if this isn't completed.
*Artists must be members at the time of applying, and also at the time of exhibition if selected to get the membership rental rate.
Artists' work is not covered by insurance, beyond the cost of the materials and would not take into account any “artistic value”. Should artists wish to cover their work for the rental period, they are encouraged to seek their own insurance.
INSTALLATION:
Artists may install on the Thursday or Friday before the exhibition start date, between regular gallery hours (10-4). Where possible, the gallery can try to arrange access outside of these hours if necessary.
EXHIBITION REMOVAL:
The final day of the exhibition will be the strike day, artists are able to take their work from 1 pm, the gallery is open 11-2. If this is not possible, the artist may remove work on the following Tuesday between regular gallery hours (10-4). Please note, the gallery is not able to store work.
PROMOTION:
The gallery will preprare and distribute promotional materials for the exhibition at its own expense. The materials will be shared with artists to use for promotion. The gallery will prepare and print at its own expense, vinyl wall titles for the exhibition.
ACCESSIBILITY:
ARTSPLACE has one reserved space for accessible parking. The Chapel Gallery is wheelchair accessible via ramp to side entrance, as is the washroom via the main entrance.
The gallery will produce labels, at its own expense, to a minimum of 18pt for legibility.
If selected, Artists are asked to record a short (up to 3 min) audio description of the exhibition and the work included, for accessibility. The guidelines for this will be provided when we contact for updated information. Artists have the option of providing a script, for staff to record.
