We are happy to announce Peace Islands Institute’s 16th Art & Essay Contest! We are seeking submissions that explore the theme “Building Bridges: The Power of Connection” through thought-provoking writing and creative arts. Applicants are invited to reflect on what it means to build meaningful connections—how connection fosters trust, strengthens relationships, and creates spaces where people feel seen, valued, and included. Submissions may highlight moments when connection helped overcome differences, reduce conflict, or bring people together across cultures, generations, and perspectives. Essays might explore personal experiences, the challenges of reaching across divides, or how connection can transform misunderstanding into mutual respect. Art submissions can illustrate the emotions, symbolism, and ripple effects of connection—belonging, collaboration, empathy, and community. Through essays or art, participants have the opportunity to express how building bridges through connection can be a powerful act of peace and a pathway to inclusive, compassionate societies.
