    The Sanitation Foundation is the official non-profit partner of the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY). Our mission is to support the work of DSNY to help clean up the city and reduce waste sent to landfill.

    We are looking to partner with schools who are ready to become stewards of their neighborhoods to reduce litter and make positive change. After submitting an application, you will receive notification of acceptance on a rolling basis. Schools or programs located in Environmental Justice Neighborhoods or that have an Economic Need Index of 74% (average) or higher will be prioritized for selection. All grant recipients will be asked to report at least 2 litter cleanup activities using the tools provided.

  • Please note: If you are selected to receive a mini-grant, you will be expected to:

    • Run at least 2 cleanup activities with participants;
    • Self-report on the follow-up actions of your group, including the pounds of waste collected and the collective actions taken by youth.

    Any partner who fails to provide this information will be ineligible for future partnerships and grant opportunities with the Sanitation Foundation.
