An Epic Heart Hero is a woman who has experienced a heart condition, stroke, or any cardiovascular health challenge, whether present from birth, developed over time, or experienced during pregnancy, taken charge of her health, and doesn't let it stop her. She understands how quickly life can change, embraces a heart-healthy lifestyle, and helps raise awareness so others can do the same. Our Heart Heroes inspire not by being perfect, but by being real - showing strength, resilience, and courage every step of the way.Epic Heart Heroes get a complimentary entry into the Detroit Women's Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and serve as ambassadors for the American Heart Association and Women Run the D, representing the program on race weekend, at events, and through their stories. They get training support, camaraderie, and fun swag, and may run, walk, or wheel - what matters most is their commitment to heart health and their willingness to lead by example.If you know a woman whose journey deserves to be celebrated, or if that woman is you, we'd love to hear her story.Now through March 15, we're accepting nominations for Epic Heart Heroes - women who are taking control of their heart health, inspiring others through their story, and showing what's possible after a heart diagnosis.This year's Heart Heroes will be announced on Saturday, March 21, 2026 ... the first day of spring!
