Call for Submissions – 2026 Members’ Exhibition

ARTSPLACE is inviting our member artists to participate in the 2026 Members’ Exhibition, More Is More.

This exhibition celebrates abundance, excess, and the unapologetic joy of too much. From dense surfaces and saturated colour to layered narratives, ornament, repetition, and visual noise, More Is More embraces maximalism as both a visual language and a state of mind. It nods, gently, to moments in history marked by creative wildness and indulgence; the last glittering dances of an era, when expression runs free, rules soften, and art becomes more experimental, theatrical, and alive. Playful, exuberant, and sometimes knowingly over-the-top, the exhibition invites artists to lean into pleasure, complexity, and the thrill of taking up space.

We invite artists working in all disciplines to respond; whether your work is loud or quiet, chaotic or meticulously composed, playful, decorative, indulgent, or conceptually overstuffed. Maximalism can be humorous or critical, personal or political. It might show up as accumulation, embellishment, scale, colour, texture, repetition, complexity, or an insistence on taking up space.

Interpretations of the theme are intentionally broad. Artists are encouraged to approach More Is More in ways that reflect their own material interests, processes, and lived experiences.

    Possible Interpretations
More Is More invites artists to lean into excess in all its forms: visual density, surface complexity, ornamentation, repetition, scale, saturation, or conceptual layering. This might mean exuberant colour palettes, intricate patterning, heavily worked surfaces, narrative overload, accumulative processes, or playful collisions of materials, imagery, and ideas.

Maximalism can respond to consumption, identity, memory, desire, labour, nostalgia, or pleasure. It can feel lush, overwhelming, humorous, obsessive, or deeply personal. Artists might explore how meaning builds through repetition, how surfaces carry history, or how abundance itself becomes a form of expression or resistance.

Whether your work is meticulously controlled or joyfully unruly, More Is More encourages artists to take up space, trust instinct, and let complexity lead.
