Job Title: Van Systems Lead
Reports to: Shop Manager
Location: Port Townsend, Washington
Job Summary
Camp N Car is seeking an experienced Van Systems Lead to oversee and execute complex system installations for our custom camper conversions. This role requires proven expertise in 12-volt electrical systems, plumbing, and vehicle-specific installation techniques. You'll work autonomously on projects, mentor junior technicians, and collaborate with our custom conversions team to deliver durable, well-engineered campers that exceed customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead installation and troubleshooting of advanced 12V electrical systems, including solar integration, battery management, inverter/charger setups, and vehicle integration
- Design and install complete plumbing systems (fresh water, gray water, hot water) with attention to winterization, weight distribution, and failure prevention
- Take ownership of vehicle system installations from planning through final inspection, managing your own workflow and timelines
- Diagnose and resolve system conflicts or integration challenges across electrical, plumbing, and structural elements
- Provide technical input during the design phase to optimize layouts, prevent issues, and improve buildability
- Share knowledge and provide guidance to less experienced team members
- Track time, materials, and project progress with accuracy and communicate proactively about challenges or material needs
- Identify inefficiencies and propose solutions to improve workflow, tooling, or shop infrastructure
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and contribute to shop maintenance and tool care
Requirements
- 3+ years hands-on experience with off-grid electrical systems (12V/24V), solar, and battery systems
- Proven experience installing plumbing systems in mobile or confined environments (vans, boats, RVs, tiny homes, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, solve problems on the fly, and manage your own workflow
- Familiarity with industry standard off-grid electrical systems hardware such as Victron & Ecoflow
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, interpret build plans, and translate designs into functional installations
- Strong communicator who can explain technical decisions clearly and collaborate respectfully
- A commitment to quality craftsmanship and thoughtful problem-solving alongside comfort giving and receiving feedback in service of better outcomes
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting pay: $30–$36/hour depending on experience and demonstrated skill level

Schedule
- 4-day work weeks Monday through Thursday
- Work days start at 9:00 AM and end at 5:00 PM with unpaid lunch and one paid break
- Possibility to increase to 10-hour workday or 5-day work week with manager approval
- Opportunities for a flexible schedule as needed with advance notice
