  • Availability and Employer Matching

Teacher externs are matched with employers based on schedule alignment. Participating employers operate on different schedules, and some placements may only be available during specific weeks or times.

Each teacher externship consists of 10 total days, delivered in two 5-day blocks of 4 hours per day. Teachers must be available for the entire 5-day block in order to participate in a placement. The two externship blocks may be placed with the same employer or with two different employers, depending on availability and industry match. The blocks may occur consecutively or may be scheduled during different weeks of the summer.

To give yourself the best chance of being placed with an employer, please indicate all weeks and times you will be able to participate. Teachers who list more flexible availability have a significantly higher likelihood of being matched with an externship placement.

  • Summer Availability

If selected for the 2026 Teacher Externship, employer matching will occur based on employer availability, pathway(s) taught, and location. All 2026 Summer Teacher Externs must complete a total of 40 hours over a 2-week time period, with no more than 20 hours completed each week. Teachers who indicate multiple available weeks and flexible scheduling have the highest likelihood of receiving an externship placement.
  • Our goal is to place teachers with employers as close as possible to their school district to strengthen ongoing industry/education partnerships. However, placement locations may vary depending on employer availability, industry alignment, and individual travel flexibility.
