  • Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability and Release of Claims

  • I, the undersigned participant or Parent/Guardian of the minor participant (hereafter collectively referred to as the "Releasor"), acknowledge that participation in fencing and related athletic activities, including but not limited to training, footwork, drills, bouts, competitions, and travel, involves inherent risks, dangers, and hazards. These risks include, but are not limited to: muscle injuries, sprains, bruises, bone fractures, cuts, equipment failure, negligence of other participants, and, in rare circumstances, severe injury or death.

The Releasor understands and acknowledges that the sport of fencing is physically demanding and inherently dangerous. The Releasor hereby voluntarily accepts and assumes full responsibility for any and all risks, injuries, or damages, known or unknown, which may be incurred by the participant as a result of participation in activities at Altius Fencing Academy (hereafter referred to as the "Academy").

In consideration for the privilege of the participant being allowed to engage in activities with the Academy, the Releasor hereby agrees to release, waive, discharge, indemnify, and hold harmless the Academy, its owner(s), employees, coaches, agents, and volunteers (collectively, the "Releasees") from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, including death, that may be sustained by the participant, or any property belonging to the participant, while participating in activities conducted by, or under the supervision of, the Academy.

This waiver extends to any claim based on the ordinary negligence of the Releasees.

  • Indemnification and Hold Harmless

  • The Releasor further agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Releasees from any loss, liability, damage, or cost (including legal fees) that may be incurred by the Releasees due to the participation of the minor or adult in the Academy’s activities, whether caused by the negligence of the participant or the negligence of the Releasees.

  • Medical Authorization and Emergency Consent

  • The Releasor hereby authorize Altius Fencing Academy and its representatives to consent to any medical treatment, surgery, or hospitalization for the Participant that may become necessary in an emergency. The Releasor certifies that the Participant is in good physical health and has no medical conditions, injuries, or impairments that would prevent safe participation in the sport of fencing. The Releasor agrees to indemnify and hold the Releasees harmless from any costs, claims, or liabilities arising out of such treatment. The Releasor understands and agree to taking full responsible for any and all costs related to medical care and emergency transportation.

  • SafeSport and Athlete Safety

Altius Fencing Academy maintains a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and follows the safety guidelines set by USA Fencing and the U.S. Center for SafeSport.
  • Fence Safe

To ensure the safety of our members, all coaches are SafeSport certified. The full USA Fencing MAAPP Policy and the SafeSport Code here:

  • Observable and Interruptible Training Environment

Technical instruction and individual lessons are core components of fencing. Altius Fencing Academy operates an 'Observable and Interruptible' environment. This means that while a coach may be working one-on-one with a fencer, the session will always take place in a public area of the club where it can be seen and interrupted by others. Parents and guardians are always welcome to remain in the facility and observe all training sessions.

  • Media and Publicity Release

  • The Releasor grants Altius Fencing Academy and its representatives the irrevocable right to photograph, film, and/or record the participant during Academy activities. The Releasor authorizes the use of the resulting images, video, and/or quotes for promotional, marketing, and training purposes across all platforms, including social media and the Academy website. The Releasor understands that the participant’s likeness may be used without compensation or prior approval. The Releasor further agree that the participant may appear in group or class photos even if specific consent is later rescinded. Altius agrees not to publish sensitive personal contact info.

While the Releasor grants this permission as a condition of enrollment, it is understood that the Releasor may rescind this permission at any time via written request; however, such rescission applies only to future publications and not to materials already in circulation.

  • Altius Fencer & Family Agreement

  • Process Driven | Team Always | Excellence Pursued

To maintain the high standards of Altius Fencing Academy, all fencers and their families agree to uphold our core pillars:

Process Driven: We focus on long-term development over short-term results. Fencers commit to arriving on time, prepared, and with a mindset ready for technical growth. We acknowledge that the "process" includes experiencing losses and receiving constructive critique as essential steps toward mastery. Parents agree to support this journey by focusing on effort and progress rather than the score of a single bout.

Team Always: We win, lose, and grow as a collective. We take care of our teammates, knowing that our own growth depends on the safety and success of those we train with. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, hazing, or exclusionary behavior. In the club and at tournaments, we represent Altius by treating teammates, opponents, and referees with the highest level of respect. Parents agree to be supportive spectators and will refrain from "sideline coaching" to ensure the athlete remains focused on the Team’s instruction and the coach’s leadership.

Excellence Pursued: Altius is Latin for "Higher." We hold ourselves to a higher standard and do not settle for "good enough." This means taking ownership of our training, equipment, and facility. We understand that safety for ourselves and everyone around us is the ultimate expression of excellence, and we ensure our actions reflect that knowledge. We don't just fence; we strive to reach higher versions of ourselves on and off the strip.

I understand that membership at Altius Fencing Academy is a privilege. Failure to adhere to these values by either the fencer or their family members may result in disciplinary action, up to and including suspension or permanent removal from the Academy without refund of dues or fees. Furthermore, I acknowledge that while tournament attendance is at the family’s discretion, there is no option to opt-out of coaching services at events where Altius is providing coaching. I agree to represent Altius with integrity, respect, and a commitment to excellence in all training and competitive environments.
