What is Amateur Eventing?
Amateur classes are for non-professional athletes in their 21st year and over who have busy lives, and enjoy having fun on their horse whilst competing against athletes of a similar standard.
Amateur classes are for part-time equestrians who don’t make a living riding horses, who don’t produce horses for sale on a commercial basis, or earn an income from riding/schooling or working with horses for a commercial yard. Amatuer members also do not coach other athletes as a form of income.
The ethos of Amateur Eventing is to be supportive and sportsmanlike.
How do I know if I am eligible to compete as an Amateur Rider?
In a nutshell, if you answer ‘yes’ to any of the questions below, then you may not classify as an amateur:
• Have you jumped 1.25 or over in SJI or equivalent in the last year (with the horse/rider combination being registered)
• Do you produce or sell horses on a commercial basis?
• Do you recive income from teaching or training equestrianism?
• Are you riding horses for a professional yard which may receive remuneration for sales in the future?
The process for queries
Often other members raise queires about people competing in their classes. The process is as follows
- Another amateur member/s will raise a queryon eligibility
- EI will transfer entry to pro class until member is cleared by the form
- Committee will look into it and contact the queried member to explain eligibility
- If member wants to apply for eligibility clearance then the form will be sent to them
- Upon receipt of the form the committee and Ei will explore the circumstances further
- The member will be notified by email of the committee response (which is final)
