National Fuel Quality Reports
Purpose:
Over the last decade, the introduction of renewable and alternative fuels into the marketplace means an increased variety of fuel feedstocks, fuel quality and fuel variability. In many cases, these new fuels and blendstocks have improved performance and characteristics with today’s newer engine technologies while introducing a new diligence in fuel quality oversight.
For decades, quality assurance has been at the forefront of the fuels industry and Clean Fuels Alliance America. We now find ourselves at the intersection of global decarbonization, legislative and regulatory fuel programs and the technical aspects required to utilize more low-carbon liquid fuels. With a growing diversity of fuels in the marketplace, many of today’s fuel issues must be properly and uniquely addressed to ensure these fuels meet both the engine and consumer needs.
The goal for all projects within the technical program for Clean Fuels and the National Biodiesel Accreditation Commission is to proactively address the technical barriers that would prevent the use of higher volumes and/or higher blends of biomass-based diesel fuel within the market. This includes all applications (on-road, off-road, rail, marine, heating oil, aviation and power generation), all seasons, and all geographies across the United States. These annual fuel quality reports are designed to reflect real-world fuel quality, not to identify marketplace specifications concerns. The reports are intended to initiate discussions on fuel quality programs.
