A NOFA-VT Community Building Initiative: Nourishing resilient communities one meal at a time
  • Image-12
  • NOFA-VT is providing $200 micro-grants for members to have meals with their neighbors, creating opportunities to strengthen our local communities while connecting over a meal in this time of rupture. In the spirit of the parable of the long-handled spoons, we’ll grow joy, power, and safety by building strong relationships and keeping each other fed.

If you're not already a member, you can join today. If you're unsure of your current membership status, reach out to membership@nofavt.org.

We’ll provide the payment up-front in check form, as well as totally optional guidance and prompts to get the conversation and connections flowing.

Of note: This is a pilot program with limited funds. If we receive more applications than we can fund, we will anonymize applications and select grantees based on town in order to spread the love across the state. While we may not be able to fund all applications in this initial round, we hope to offer additional funding rounds as resources become available.

By applying for a long-handled spoons dinner micro-grant, you agree to do the following if awarded:

    1. Invite 5-10 neighbors over for a meal any time before April 15 (you can define what neighbor means to you, and we encourage you to invite some people you don't already have strong relationships with).
    2. Prioritize purchasing ingredients from local, organic farmers and producers. Stop by a locally-owned grocery store, co-op, farm stand, or farmers market to maximize your impact.
    3. Send us a photo of your gathering that we can share (it’s a-ok if it’s just of the food if you don’t want to show your face online) and a list of local farms or food businesses you supported.

This form will be open for applications until midnight on Sunday, March 1st. We will follow up with all applicants in early March.

  • Breaking bread together (especially with folks we don’t know well) has long been the fiber that weaves strong communities together. When we come together around a table, we remember that we are not alone and recommit to keeping each other fed, safe, and warm—especially when we’re feasting on delicious food grown by our producers and strengthening the local food system.

Thank you for being a member of NOFA-VT and for your interest in hosting a long-handled spoons dinner!
