Exhibition Statement
Newburyport Art is celebrating the younger generation of artists in our greater community! This art call is open to all young artists, grades K-12. Artists do not need to be enrolled in any particular school and there are no other eligibility requirements. Both NAA members and non-members are eligible.
Artists may submit 1 work only, in an effort to showcase as many young artists as possible.
All work that is submitted will be shown in the gallery on a first-come, first-served basis. If you need assistance completing the online form, please call the gallery at 978-465-8769.
Important Dates
- Submission deadline: March 25th (by 11:59pm) -- or until filled
- Artwork drop off (65 Water Street, Newburyport):
- March 28 (2:00pm - 7:00pm)
- March 29 (11:00am–5:00pm)
- Please have 2D works framed and wired as outlined below
- If you need assistance wiring:
- Please visit on March 28 (2:00pm–4:00pm) when we will have volunteer artists to assist
- 2 dimensional works should be framed & wired (see image attached)
- If framing the piece is cost prohibitive please let us know and we would be happy to help! (if you are able to let us know ahead of drop off on March 28th we would appreciate it)
- Exhibition Dates: April 1st – April 25th
- Exhibition Reception & Awards: April 25 (3pm–4pm) -- awards @ 3:15
- Artwork pick up: April 25th (by 5:00pm)
Eligibility
This call is open to members and non-members of Newburyport Art — all media — grades K-12 (or equivalent).
Entry Fees
- The entry fee is WAIVED this year, sponsored by the Prince Fund
- Family members of NAA artist members receive free entry.
Selection Process
Due to limitations in gallery space, this call is first-come, first-served. The plan is to accept and exhibit all work submitted, and when Newburyport Art feels there is insufficient space to exhibit all work, the call will be closed.
Artwork Requirements
- All work must be original. (Art kits, paint-by-number, tracing, etc. are not permissable.)
- No wet paintings
- (3D) Sculpture and 3-dimensional work must be less than 7 feet in height, 90 pounds or less, and fit within a 3x3 foot area.
- (2D) Works must be ready to hang with screw eyes/D-rings and wire on the back (see image below for example)
*Volunteers and staff will be on hand to assist when/where possible. We have set aside Saturday, March 28th from 2pm–4pm to help wire and prepare works for hanging.

Submission Guidelines
- Artists must upload at least one digital image per work. This image should be of the artwork only (excluding any mat, frame, and background)
- No artwork substitution is allowed
- Submission of your entry constitutes your agreement with all terms found in this Call for Art.
- The NAA reserves the right to decline any submission, or to remove a selected work, for any reason.
Sales and Insurance
- Artists are not required to sell their work, but are welcome to do so!
- The NAA retains a commission of 20% for works sold.
- If a work sells, NAA will notify the artist via email and ask you to confirm your mailing address
- Newburyport Art will make every effort to issue consignment checks to artists for any show sales within 30 days following the close of the exhibition.
- Works will be handled with all possible care. The NAA provides insurance up to 60% of the value declared by the artist from the day of receipt of the artwork to the final published pick-up date. The NAA is not responsible for any work not picked up by the end of the designated pick-up window of time.
- Work that is not picked up by the end of the day on April 25th will be thrown out unless prior arrangements are made
