'By a Thread' explores the literal and metaphorical power of the single strand. From the precariousness of the human condition to the resilience of nature and the fragility of memory. The call invites artists to delve into themes of tension, connection, vulnerability, and strength.

The thread is the fundamental building block of fiber art, yet it also represents the most delicate point of connection.

We invite felters, weavers, rug hookers, embroiderers, and thread artists to submit works that challenge and expand the concept of the phrase "Hanging by a Thread." Submissions will be selected based on artistic quality, technical skill, and the successful interpretation of the theme. This exhibition aims to showcase the depth, diversity, and conceptual power of contemporary fiber art.

  • Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme through a variety of lenses:

    * Vulnerability & Resilience: Work that explores moments of uncertainty, emotional strain, or the strength required to persevere.

    * Connection & Severance: Pieces that examine what ties us together—family, community, history—or the moment those ties are broken.

    * Structure & Breakdown: Fiber art that plays with the stability of a material, depicting decay, unraveling, or structures on the verge of collapse.

    * Literal Interpretation: Art that highlights the beauty and power of the single line, the fragile nature of the materials themselves, or the meticulous labor involved in hand-stitching or weaving.
