  • Summary:

    Mind Matters is a one-day event featuring community mental health workshops that bring together people of all ages to learn practical coping skills, strengthen communication, and build connections around mental health.

    • This event will serve 100+ community members (ideally), and I need at least 25 volunteers to help with it. Volunteers will help create a welcoming, accessible, and engaging environment through facilitation support, logistics, and community engagement roles.
    • All volunteer roles are designed to provide at least three hours of meaningful service, hands-on experience, and connection to NAMI Southern Nevada’s ongoing programs.

  • Available Volunteer Support Tracks:

  • Workshop Support Track

    Best for: people interested in mental health education, facilitation, therapy, teaching, or social work

    Roles may include:

    • Facilitating activities
    • Assisting with grounding or discussion exercises
    • Time-keeping and participant flow
    • Supporting accessibility and emotional safety

    Skills helpful (not required):

    • Comfort speaking in small groups
    • Lived experience or interest in mental health
    • Bilingual skills (Spanish especially)

    Time commitment: Aligned with 1–2 workshop blocks (minimum 3 hours)

  • Community Welcome & Engagement Track

    Best for: people-people, first-time volunteers, outgoing or supportive personalities

    Roles may include:

    • Greeters & check-in
    • Directing participants to workshops
    • Supporting the networking / open hour
    • Helping participants feel oriented and comfortableional safety

    Skills helpful (not required):

    • Warm communication
    • Reliability
    • Comfort engaging with diverse age groups

    Time commitment: One volunteer shift (3 hours)

  • Operations & Logistics Track

    Best for: behind-the-scenes helpers, organizers, detail-oriented folks

    Roles may include:

    • Setup & breakdown
    • Room resets between workshops
    • Refreshment support
    • Supply tracking

    Skills helpful (not required):

    • Physical stamina
    • Organization
    • Teamwork

    Time commitment: Setup or cleanup shift (or combined)

    Best for: students, interns, evaluators, introverts

    Roles may include:

    • Note-taking/photos during workshops
    • Tracking attendance and flow
    • Supporting evaluation forms
    • Capturing feedback and observations

    Skills helpful (not required):

    • Writing
    • Observation
    • Confidentiality awareness

    Time commitment: One volunteer shift (3 hours)

  • Food & Hospitality Track

    Best for: Detail-oriented, service-minded volunteers who enjoy supporting behind the scenes while still interacting with participants.

    Roles may include:

    • Assisting with refreshment setup before the event
    • Monitoring food and beverage stations during networking hour
    • Restocking, organizing, and maintaining cleanliness
    • Supporting dietary labeling (allergen signage, bilingual labels if applicable)
    • Assisting with light cleanup of food areas

    Skills helpful (not required):

    • Organization
    • Awareness of inventory & food safety basics
    • Friendly and welcoming presence

    Time commitment: One volunteer shift (3 hours) & primarily aligned with:

    • 8:30–11:30 AM (Setup)
    • 11:30 AM–2:30 PM (Networking & Midday Support)
    • 2:00–5:00 PM (Cleanup)
