  • UPLINK! is VP's member programmed event designed to support and showcase the work of our community practising in independent, experimental digital and media arts.

    Held monthly on the last Thursday of each month, UPLINK! offers CPU and Motherboard members an opportunity to present new works, test ideas, and share evolving practices with the public.

    CPU and Motherboard members can apply to receive free access to The Output ans present a solo or group show for an evening of experimental digital and media art. Works may be finished pieces or works in progress that meaningfully engage with old or emerging technologies and align with VP’s mandate of independent experimental media arts.

    • Submission Guidelines 
      • Open to current CPU and Motherboard members.
      • Work must align with VP’s mandate of supporting independent, experimental digital + media arts.
      • Presentation must not be funded by a grant.
      • Proposals should be for an evening of presentations (multiple performers/videos, artist spotlight/talk, long-form video(s) etc.)
      • Members are welcome to charge an entrance fee / sell tickets.
    • What You Can Present  
      • A/V performances
      • Sound art (listening, performances)
      • Video art (screenings, live performances)
      • Technology-focused installations (sound, visual, mechanical, digital etc)
      • Analog and digital works

      All work must meaningfully incorporate an experimental approach using analog or digital technology. Priority will be given to media arts projects.

    • Cover Charge + Merch  
      • Cover charges by the artist may apply.
      • Artist-produced merchandise can be sold such as downloadables, tapes, DVDs, vinyl, T-shirts, posters etc.
      • All proceeds of the cover charge and merch sales goes to to the artist or artists.
    • Feasibility  
      • Events must be able to take place within one day. (set-up and strike)
      • All events must adhere to VP's venue rental policies, including damage deposit.
      • Artists required to attend a venue orientation the week prior to the event.
      • Includes access to all venue equipment.
      • Additional equipment can be rented from Technical Services.
      • Artist are responsible for their own technician.

       

    • Review Process  
        • All submissions are reviewed for alignment with VP’s mandate.
        • VP reserves the right to decline works that fall outside this scope or present technical or safety concerns.
        • Maximum of 2 shows per year, pending availability.
        • Acceptance notices will be sent out 1 to 2 months in advance of requested booking date.
        • Refundable deposit is required to confirm booking date.
        • Cancellations will be subject to cancellation fees.
        • Applications will be entered into a lottery.
        • Names will be drawn and announced.
