Criteria for the KY TRIO College Scholarship
[Award: $500]
APPLICANTS MUST BE
- Participant in an Eligible Program: SSS or McNair
- Admitted or currently enrolled at a postsecondary institution and plan to be enrolled the following semester (i.e. must be admitted and planning to attend college during the fall semester of the 2026-2027 academic year).
1. Essay Prompt:
Write a letter to yourself (or a loved one) dated five years from now.
In general, this letter should describe why you have chosen to go to college, what challenges you had to and may still need to overcome, and what you plan to accomplish in the next five years. Specifically, you could answer/address these questions: What motivated you to enroll in college? What challenges did you encounter during this time? Where do you see yourself five years from now? What will you have accomplished during and/or with your college education in the next five years?
2. Resume:
Applicants will prepare a resume that will showcase:
Activities. List any significant experiences or involvements (i.e. these may include such things as family, school, church, community, work, volunteer, and any other activities or roles that the applicant deems as relevant)
Honors and Awards. List any national, regional, and local awards. (i.e. these may include recognition from clubs/organizations or academics)
3. Letter of Recommendation
One letter of recommendation of the applicant’s choice (i.e. counselor, instructor, employer, pastor, etc).
Applicants should submit the required materials to their Nominator (a TRIO employee who is a paid member of KY TRIO), who will submit the application on the applicant’s behalf.
DEADLINE: Submit no later than 4:00PM [CST] / 5:00 PM [EST] on Friday, March 27, 2026.
