    The South Dallas Cultural Center is seeking a dedicated artist for our 2027 Artist-in-Residence Program. This residency provides an immersive opportunity to create, engage with the South Dallas community, and develop new work over an extended period.
  • SDCC Mission: The South Dallas Cultural Center provides programs in the performing, literary, and visual arts with an emphasis on the African contribution to world culture. We facilitate enriching and dynamic opportunities for the Dallas community to experience, examine, and celebrate black creative culture.

     

    Artists are selected based on their demonstrated mastery of the subject matter, artistic skill, and professional experience. Selection is not influenced by race, creed, ethnicity, or any other protected characteristic. Participation in classes and programs is open and welcoming to all individuals, regardless of background.

    Opens April 1, 2026
    Closes June 1, 2026

    Residency Overview
    Duration: January 2027 – October 2027
    Number of Artists Selected: 2
    Residency Culmination: Visual Artist’s work will be featured in the Center’s 5th exhibition of the year (September – October 2027).
    Support Provided: Studio space, stipend (no more than 3k per artist), and opportunities for community engagement including workshops, talks, and collaborations with local programs.

    The residency is designed for artists committed to exploring innovative ideas and fostering dialogue through their practice. Residents are expected to engage with the South Dallas community, contribute to cultural programming, and develop a body of work that will be showcased professionally.

    Residency Deliverables:

    1. One keepsake piece for the South Dallas Cultural Center.
    2. Culminating presentation depending on discipline.

    - Dance or Theater: live performance or staged presentation
    - Spoken Word / Professional Poetry: live performance or reading
    - Music: live performance
    - Visual Arts: exhibition of artwork
    - Film: screening or showcase
    - New Media Arts / Art + Technology: exhibition, interactive installation, or showcase

    2. Portfolio of Recent Work (images, recordings, videos, or links)
    3. Project Proposal or Residency Plan
