Feeling part of a community starts with staying connected — knowing what’s happening, sharing news and celebrating (and supporting) one another through life’s moments.

We keep in touch with our members in a few different ways and you’re always welcome to share ideas about how we can communicate better.

Members receive:

• Online Bulletin — a weekly email with community news, upcoming events and practical updates
• Templer Talk — a monthly newsletter sharing stories, milestones and reflections from across the Templer Community
• Templer Reflections — our journal, edited by our Elders and published several times a year, exploring faith, philosophy, heritage and culture in the Templer Community
• Annual Report — the year in review, sharing highlights, key milestones key milestones and initiatives across the Templer Community
• Bereavement notices — shared with care and respect when members of our community pass away. This is particularly important in a community with long-standing and generational connections.

Members also receive:

• an updated Membership Directory every 12–18 months
• a printed Calendar of Events each year

The weekly bulletin and bereavement notices are sent by email. The Membership Directory and Calendar are printed and mailed to members. You can choose how you receive Templer Talk, Templer Reflections and the Annual Reports, in a way that suits you best.

Membership Directory

Our Membership Directory is a private list of members’ names and contact details, including phone numbers, email addresses and residential addresses. It is shared within the Templer community to help members remain connected, and to support and celebrate one another.

A printed copy is distributed to members only and is not made public. You may choose to be fully included, to have only your name listed or not to be included at all.

Beyond simply listing contact details, the Membership Directory plays an important role in nurturing a connected and caring community. It:

• Strengthens the everyday life of our community — making it easier to extend invitations, share milestones, welcome new members and foster friendships across generations.
• Becomes especially meaningful in times of challenge — whether illness, grief, natural disaster or personal difficulty — enabling members to lean into the strength of the community and offer or receive practical care.
• Supports continuity and belonging — helping members see who forms our community and deepening the sense that we are part of something shared.

My membership pledge

As a member, I agree to:

• support and live out the vision, purpose and values of the Temple Society
• take part in the life of the Templer Community in ways that feel meaningful to me
• contribute a small annual membership fee, with understanding and flexibility where financial hardship exists
• be guided by the Constitution of Temple Society Australia Limited and the governance policies that help our community function well 

Members guarantee

The Temple Society is a not-for-profit organisation set up using a common legal structure called a company limited by guarantee. This structure supports good governance and helps protect the community. In simple terms, this means:

• members do not own the organisation
• members are not personally responsible for the organisation’s debts
• if the Temple Society were ever to close and its debts exceeded its assets, each member agrees to contribute up to $10

This $10 is:

• a one-off amount, not an ongoing fee
• separate from the annual membership fee only relevant in the unlikely event that the organisation is wound up
• a standard legal requirement for not-for-profit organisations in Australia

For most members, this will never apply. It simply allows the Temple Society to operate responsibly and protect the wider Templer Community.
