  • About Our Community Meal Events

    The Gathering hosts a FREE community meal every other Monday for individuals and families throughout Cass County. 

    Our mission is simple: Neighbors Feeding Neighbors by providing nutritious meals, supportive services, and a welcoming place for everyone.

    Volunteers help make every meal possible by preparing food, packaging meals, greeting guests, delivering meals to neighbors who cannot attend, serving in the dining room, setting up, cleaning up, and sharing kindness with everyone who walks through our doors.

    Each meal serves hundreds of neighbors through Dine-In, Carry-Out, and Delivery options. In addition to a hot meal, guests may have access to shelf-stable food, hygiene items, meal bags, and other helpful resources.

    No special skills are required—just a willingness to help and a caring heart. Whether you can volunteer for an hour or spend the day with us, your time makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors and helps strengthen our community.

    Liability Waiver Required: All volunteers must complete and sign the Liability Waiver included at the end of this form.

    Volunteer Commitment: If you sign up for a shift, please do your best to attend. We understand that illnesses, emergencies, and schedule changes happen. If you are unable to volunteer, please call or text Sally at 712-249-7709 as soon as possible so we can adjust our plans. If you'd like, you may find a replacement volunteer and have them complete this form.

    Group Volunteer Opportunities: Have a church group, family, organization, business, or group of friends interested in volunteering together? Groups of 10 or more can serve as a Volunteer Sponsor Team for the day. Simply complete this form for your group members. Leave us a note that you want to Sponsor your group so we can help you with our schedule.

    Meal Location: United Church of Christ (UCC), 1607 Hazel Street, Atlantic, IA.

    Opening & Closing Volunteers: These shifts include loading and unloading supplies from our storage building at 322 Walnut Street (South Side Door) and transporting items to and from the meal site.
