    2026 Scholarship Application for young men

     

  • Dear Applicant,

    The Andrew B. Womack Sr. Scholarship honors the academic, civic, and athletic achievements of a male graduating senior planning to attend a 4-year college or university of his choice. The ideal recipient will have participated in and excelled in school-sponsored sports activities and/or achieved a cumulative B grade point average or better with noted aptitude in the subjects of English and Social Sciences.

    Additionally, the scholarship recipient may be pursuing a major and a future career in law, communications, and/or social services. He will also exhibit empathy and compassion toward those around him, as evidenced by his community service efforts.

    The scholarship is in loving memory of Mr. Andrew B. Womack Sr.

    Scholarship submission will be evaluated on essay responses, literacy, and grammar. Essays should be no longer than 500 words and must be typed or printed. Completed applications should be submitted by May 15, 2026.

    Applicants must be a college-bound young man, participated in school sponsored sport activity, and/or have achieved a cumulative B grade point average or better with noted aptitude in the subjects of English and Social Sciences.

  • 1. What are the requirements to apply for the scholarship?   

    The applicant must be a college-bound young male student with a cumulative grade point average of at least a B or higher to qualify for the scholarship. 


    2. What is the minimum GPA requirement to apply for the scholarship?

    To apply for the scholarship, the student must have an overall grade point average of B or better.

    3. When is the application due?                                           

    The application and all supporting documents MUST BE uploaded by 11:59 PM EST on May 15, 2026.


    4. What supporting documents must be included in the application package?

     

    One letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or community leader;
    Official transcript (must have official school stamp);
    Essay (Submit a 500-word or less essay from one of the writing prompts below); 
    (1) Describe a time when showing compassion towards others made a significant impact on your life.

                                     OR

    (2) Share a personal story that highlights the importance of empathy in overcoming challenges or adversity. 

    5. Who should write my letter of recommendation?     

    The letter of recommendation should be written by a teacher/school counselor, employer, family member, friend, or community leader.

    6. What are some examples of honors or awards that will meet the criteria for the application?

    Academic honors include national honor societies, subject awards (e.g., science or math), and recognitions for academic achievement. Other awards that will meet the criteria are community service awards or athletic awards (leadership awards)


    7. When should I expect to be notified about a scholarship award?

    Notification of awards will occur the week of May 15 and will be sent to high school personnel.
