About the event
Hear me out...we're doing Powerpoint night, but without Powerpoints (or even a computer). Why? Because - stick with me here - the Power to Point has been inside us all along.
Six presenters get 5 minutes of stage time, a section of wall to tack their evidence onto, and a length of string to illustrate shocking new connections we might have seen sooner if we just opened our minds a little, mannn. A trophy will be awarded to whichever audience member really GETS what’s going on here and offers the most compelling meta-narrative that connects all of the presentations.
What we're looking for
Pitch us your idea for a 5 minute presentation/performance on literally whatever you want, that ideally involves making an outrageous leap. Something where you might find yourself saying “Trust me on this!” “Hear me out” “Stick with me here…” Walk us through your wild theory. Sell us on your fake timeshare. Tell us everything you know about TCBY’s franchise explosion and how it intersected with the Riot Grrrl movement. Be the conspiracy plot you want to see in the world!
We will provide
An approximately 6 foot wide section of wall, push pins, red string, and microphone. We can also provide paper, markers, hammer, nails, and printer (black and white ink, marginally reliable) access if needed.
Details
- In addition to tacking stuff up on the wall - props, handouts, or other materials may be used, but no computers. If you want to use something messy or difficult, let's talk about it (mention in your submission).
- Presenters will be able to access their wall to set up as early as 6pm, if desired.
- There is a strict 5 min time limit for presentations.
- The audience will be gathered classroom style around the presenter (seated on the floor, on stools, and standing - at a range of ~7-14 feet from your wall...consider this when planning size/legibility of materials) and we'll move around the gallery for each presentation.
- Stuff will stay up on the walls until 10pm (so everyone can marvel at your brilliant work) and then we ask that you take it down.
