I understand and acknowledge the following:
A. LEAGUE AND TEAM INFORMATION:
The High School Hockey Spring League games, officials, and program is solely managed by the Rockville Ice Arena.
The Winston Churchill High School Ice Hockey Club, Inc. ("the Club), a 501(c)3 organization, will, as a courtesy, coordinate a group team sign-up and player registration. The Club offers no obligations beyond that.
Participants must have a current USA Hockey player registration in order to be rostered on the team and agree to be bound by USA Hockey, Club and Rockville Rink rules.
There are no provisions to have athletic trainers or other medical staff present at games or events.
The league consists of two high school divisions: An "upper" division which is intended for teams with players mostly in grades 11 and 12, and a "lower" division which is intended for teams with players mostly in grades 8-10. Churchill may play in the "lower" division, however, the Club will decide whether Churchill will play in the “upper” or “lower” division based on the skill level of players that sign-up.
There will be a minimum of 9 games for the regular season, and team stats will be available. At least 4 teams will participate in playoffs. Southeastern Hockey Officials Association (SHOA) sanctioned officials will be used to referee games.
B. PARENT SCOREKEEPING REQUIREMENT - Rockville rink no longer provides a scorekeeper for the games. As a result, parents/guardians must scorekeep for games designated as our "Home" games.
Training is available.
We estimate that we will have 4-6 games where we need to do this. Player dues include a modest scorekeeping fee. Twenty dollars ($20) will be returned to you for each game you are scorekeeper. (e.g., Scorekeep for 4 games, get $80.)
Parents will have the option to sign-up for game slots at the start of the season when the schedule is published.
If not enough parents sign-up, names will be selected at random and you will be asked to scorekeep or find another parent to take your place. If we don't have a scorekeeper, the team has to forfeit the game so this is an important requirement to understand.
C. TEAM ROSTERS AND PLAYER SCRATCHES:
Eligibility:
Anyone age 14-18 who is an 8th grader through current high school senior can play. Priority sign-up will be given to 8th-11th graders in the event we reach a roster maximum.
If we still have too many players, we may have to make a roster decision based on first registered, playing experience, or some other way.
If we can't place a player on the team, the player dues paid to the Churchill Club will be refunded in full.
If you had to sign-up with USA Hockey to get a membership number you won't be able to get those fees back, but you can participate in other USA Hockey programs.
Player Scratches:
Teams can have a minimum of 12 skaters* and 1 goalie to a maximum of 20 skaters and 2 goalies on their roster, but only 2 goalies and 18 skaters can dress for each game. (*skaters mean non-goalies)
The league allows teams to sign up 20 skaters, when only 18 can play, because there is an assumption that not all 20 skaters will show up to a game. However, if 20 skaters did show up, 2 would have to be scratched.
We are looking at ways to fairly determine who gets to play and who gets scratched but this may be a complication to deal with.
D. SCHEDULE INFORMATION
The league starts March 23, 2026, and runs through May 22, 2026.
Games will be played Mon-Fri, generally starting at 3:45 pm or later, at the Rockville Ice Rink. Each team will play at least one game per week. There are no team practices.
E. RULES AND EXPECTATIONS
Playing time will generally be similar to that of pick-up hockey so all players get fair playing time. Players that show up for a game will play on a rotational basis with whomever is on the bench and are expected to share ice time in a way fair to each other.
In some situations, and during the playoff games, the coaches reserve the option to play certain players, lines, or goalies for a competitive advantage for the team, or to provide instruction to players or the team, however, a best effort will be made to provide fair playing time to all players overall.
Coaches will take into consideration a player's preference for position played (i.e., wing, center, defense) and may or may not be able to meet that preference based on team needs or to help with a player's development.
Coaches have the option to sit or not play players if players fail to keep TeamSnap updated at least a day in advance of whether they will be available for a game, arrive late to the rink without a valid reason, or for other reasons that interfere with managing and coaching a team.
Players will be required to arrive at least 30 minutes before each game and participate in dryland pre-game warm-ups. This is meant to be a TEAM warm-up and not optional based on a player's preference. Players need to arrive in clothes appropriate for the warm-ups, for example, have sneakers to wear vs. trying to run in Crocs.)
This is a NO BODY CONTACT league, which is strongly enforced by the rink and officials. Slapshots are okay/allowed.
Both the Rockville Ice Arena and the Winston Churchill Ice Hockey Club, Inc., reserve the right to remove a player from the team roster at any time who proves to be a disruption to the rink, team, coaches, or the league, or violates the USA Hockey Player Code of Conduct, Zero Tolerance Policy, the Winston Churchill Hockey Club Rules, or other rules. The player may be given one warning prior to being removed from the team; however in an egregious situation, such as fighting, damage to rink property, disrespecting teammates, coaches, officials, providing misleading or false registration information, etc., a player may be immediately removed from the roster and suspended for the remainder of the season. There will be NO REFUND of dues in such cases.
F. DUES
Player dues are:
- $265 per player
- $320 per player for those needing a jersey* ($265 + $55)
*Players that have a Spring League jersey from last year or have a WCHS team practice jersey from this past season can use that and do not need to buy a new jersey.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund of dues for injuries, being removed from a team for any of the reasons outlined in this registration form, or other reasons once rosters are finalized. If, however, a player is not placed on the roster, then dues paid to the Club will be refunded in full.
