Clone of Shrek TYA Audition Form
  • Steel Magnolias at Stage 62

  • Thank you for your interest in auditioning for the spring production of Steel Magnolias at Stage 62!

Director: Sean Michael Barrett | Producer: Jess Whittington
Stage Manager: Jena Curran | Ass't Stage Manager: Sydney Shearer

    THE PLAY:

All the ladies who are “anybody” in Chinquapin, Louisiana come to Truvy’s beauty salon to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoo and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.”

Filled with hilarious repartee and several acerbic verbal collisions, the comedy moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby risks her life to go through with a dangerous pregnancy. Confronted with the harshness of mortality, the others draw together to find strength – and love – in the wake of tragedy.

    • Character Descriptions
    • TRUVY JONES – 40ish. Owner of a small town beauty shop. She knows everyone’s business and shares it with anyone who will listen. Southern Belle. She always has advice for you, and they often come in the form of country sayings.

ANNELLE DUPUY-DESOTO – 19. Beauty shop assistant - very shy.  She goes from a very soft-spoken person to a bible-loving Christian with her heart on her sleeve.

CLAIREE BELCHER – 66ish. Grand dame and widow of the former mayor of Chinquapin. She is wealthy and also knows everyone’s business. She is the sarcastic member of the group. She loves to laugh and poke fun at the little things that others cry over. She is very close with Ouiser.

SHELBY EATENTON-LATCHERIE – 25. Prettiest girl in town, and loved by all. She has an interesting relationship with her mother, and often rebels just for the sake of rebellion.

M’LYNN EATENTON – 50ish. Shelby’s mother. Socially prominent career woman.  She is over-protective at times and finds the need to have a firm grasp on the world at all times. She is a busy woman who worries too much for her age.

OUISER (pronounced “Weezer”) BOUDREAUX – 66ish. Wealthy curmudgeon. Acerbic but lovable. Her unique personality and sense of humor is a great relief in the serious scenes. She is very close to Clairee.

  • STAGE 62 POLICY AGAINST HARASSMENT

It is the policy of Stage 62 to maintain an environment free from all forms of harassment, intimidation, and discrimination including those based on age, sex/gender, race, color, disability, nationality, religious preference, sexual orientation or status as a veteran.

Unlawful harassment includes, without limitation, verbal harassment (epithets, derogatory statements and slurs), physical harassment (assault, physical interference with normal work or environment), visual harassment (posters, cartoons and drawings) and innuendo. Harassment of volunteers or customers is prohibited.

Unlawful sexual harassment is also prohibited. Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, sexually motivated physical contact and other verbal or physical contact, or visual forms of harassment of a sexual nature, when submission to such conduct is either explicitly or implicitly made a term or condition of participation in any Stage 62 event, or when such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's volunteer tasks or performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment. Such conduct is a serious violation of Stage 62 rules and will result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from a production, and revoking of Stage 62 membership.

Any person who believes he or she has been subjected to harassment should tell the other person that the conduct is unwelcome and must cease immediately. If the conduct persists, the complaining person may file a Complaint with the Director or Producer of a specific production and/or the President or Vice President of Stage 62, and a prompt, thorough and fair investigation will then be made. Investigations will be conducted, insofar as reasonably possible, to protect the parties' privacy. If Stage 62 determines that there has been harassment in violation of this policy, it will take prompt corrective action. If the complaining person or persons against whom the Complaint is addressed is dissatisfied with Stage 62's response, either person can request a review by the Board of Directors if it is made within ten (10) calendar days of the previous decision.

Stage 62 will not tolerate retaliation against any volunteer or members who complains of harassment or provides information in connection with any such complaint. Any incidents of further harassment or any incidents of retaliation should be reported immediately to the President or Vice President of Stage 62.
