The Town of Silverton is applying for state grant funding to create a set of pre-approved Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) plans and a practical technical guide for property owners. Building an ADU can be expensive and complicated, especially in a remote mountain community like Silverton with unique lot sizes, historic considerations, snow loads, and infrastructure constraints. Pre-approved plans would reduce upfront design costs, provide clear guidance on what meets Town requirements, and streamline the permitting process. The goal is to make it easier and more predictable for property owners to build ADUs to help alleviate some of Silverton's housing market challenges, such as the availablity of long-term rentals.
