What to Expect
Leonardo's Discovery Camp experience.
In 2024, Leonardo's camp was reimagined to offer a consistent enriching experience for every camper with a better balance of art, science, STEM, and play! Our campers follow a schedule for each day. We begin with our morning greeting, an overview of the day, and expectations of behavior. The campers are then divided into groups, and move through their activites in blocks of 30 to 45 minutes. Snack time and play breaks are interspersed between activities. At Leo's, we find consistancy, momentum, and variety help to keep the children focused and having fun.
Play breaks during each session
There are two play breaks per session at either Adventure Quest or in the museum. At Leonardo's we understand the power of play and the importance of hand-ons on learning beyond the classrooms.
A focus on art techniques
Art lessons and activities have a goal of introducing campers to different styles, methods, and techniques involved in a variety of artforms. Painting, sculpture, drawing, as well as performance art like dance and movement. Our focus isn't about perfection or competition. We want our campers to explore their imaginations as they discover the tools and techniques behind art.
A focus on the scientific process
Campers will use their brains and their hands to solve problems and understand how and why things work. Sometimes an experiement fails, or goes in an unexpected direction. We encourage moments like this, as it allows campers to practice without the fear of a bad grade. There are no failures when it comes to science activities, only opportunities. Leo's campers will learn to be courageous in the face of failure, and use it to discover success.
