  • Are you curious about the future of congregational life?  Are the trends that your church is experiencing outliers or more of a broader, shared cultural reality? How is congregational life changing? What might the shape of faith communities look like going forward during this time of the rise of nones and the spiritually curious?

    Pittsburgh Presbytery and Christian Associates are excited to partner with Bower Hill Community Church’s Speaker Series on Faith Forward: The Future of Congregational Life.  The series will feature nationally renowned experts and local faith leaders.   The series will be held on March 11, April 22, and May 13, 2026, from 4 to 8 pm at Cefalo’s Banquet and Event Center, 428 Washington Avenue, Carnegie.

    Because Pittsburgh Presbytery is sponsoring the series, we can offer our congregations and ministry leaders discounted tickets.  Instead of $25, the cost of the meal and the event is only $10 or $30 for all three events.

  • March 11, 2026

    The series opens on Wednesday, March 11, with a data-driven look at religion in America, led by political scientist and pastor Ryan P. Burge.. The author of several books, including the newly published “The Vanishing Church,” he will share insights about religious decline and polarization and their implications for democracy and community life.

    April 22, 2026

    Andrew Root picks up the conversation on April 22. A professor of youth and family ministry at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, his books include “When Church Stops Working” and the six-volume “Ministry in a Secular Age” series.   He explores ways for congregations to maintain and build their spiritual vitality even in a climate of religious decline and fragmentation.

    May 13, 2026

    The series concludes Wednesday, May 13, as local congregational leaders talk about how they’ve approached such challenges and what they’ve learned along the way. The speakers for the event will be Liddy Barlow, Gregory D. Jones, Tracy Keenan, and Eric Schaffer.
