Thanks for your interest in this event! Open exclusively to third level students, Irish National Opera is delighted to present a workshop that offers a chance to rehearse and play the Overture and scenes from Rusalka, Dvořák's darkly poetic opera inspired by the story of the Little Mermaid. The orchestra will be joined by singers from Irish National Opera, who will sing the parts of three beguiling Wood Nymphs.
Conducted by Irish National Opera's Artistic Director Fergus Sheil, the workshop will take place in the orchestral pit of the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre between performances during INO's run of Rusalka. In addition to learning about the stylistic performance of Dvořák's music, the workshop offers participants a chance to develop some of the unique skills required when performing in a theatre pit, including the experience of accompanying opera singers. Participants will also have an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of what it takes for a company like INO to produce a largescale opera.
Participation is free, but as the event has a strict capacity, applicants will be selected based on their skills and experience.
To apply, please complete the online application form below by Thursday 5 March. Places will be confirmed by Monday 9 March.
Participants are also warmly encouraged to take advantage of Irish National Opera's €15 student tickets to attend a performance of the opera itself on 22, 24, 26 or 28 March.
