  • Access to Home Cuts

    The Access to Home Program is at risk of receiving a $4 million cut in this year’s budget. Access to Home is an important program administered by NYS Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) which provides funding for home modifications, allowing individuals with disabilities and older New Yorkers to stay in their homes and out of costly institutions. Last year’s enacted budget funded Access to Home at $5 million, but Governor Hochul has proposed funding Access to Home at just $1 million for FY 2027. It is crucial that Access to Home’s funding is restored and an additional $5 million is added to achieve $10 million in total funding. A recent report on Access to Home showed that it reached only 30 counties across New York when funded at $4 million. An increase in funding will ensure availability of the program statewide. The modifications made possible by Access to Home not only enhance autonomy and dignity for people with disabilities, but also save the State millions of dollars each year by preventing costly stays in nursing homes and other congregate settings.Call or email your State Senator and Assemblymember today and tell them to properly fund Access to Home!
