Dive into the bold, colorful world of oil pastels! In this youth class, artists will explore fun techniques like blending, layering vibrant colors, and creating exciting textures with a scratching method called sgraffito. Oil pastels offer rich, creamy color that’s different from traditional crayons or chalk, making them perfect for expressive, hands-on creativity. Students will create a simple composition while experimenting and discovering the possibilities of this dynamic medium.
About the Instructor:
Jona M Brown is a Fergus Falls-based oil painting artist, known for her chicken, butterfly, and kitchen-inspired art. Inspired by unique items or an interesting character, she creates compositions that tell a story. Jona studied oil painting in high school and college. She received a BS in interior design from NDSU with a minor in bus. admin. Jona spent 30 years in retail, running Biffley’s & Bookmark and JCP Catalog. Currently Jona paints murals for the OTCHS, researches genealogy, teaches art and Sunday School, and maintains and restores her historic home. To expand her artistic skills and story-telling ability, she is exploring oil pastels and cartoon drawing.
Class Date: Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 10AM-12PM
Sliding Scale Registration Fee: $30-$45 (supplies included)
Class will take place in the Classroom located in the lower level at Kaddatz Galleries (111 W. Lincoln Ave. Fergus Falls, MN 56537).
