• Research Request

Thank you for filling out a research request form. We encourage the use of the form to streamline requests and assist you efficiently. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions on our website before filling out the form if you have any questions/ambiguity.
  • What is the nature of your inquiry?*
  • Do you have evidence (e.g. census records) that the record you are looking for was issued through a congregation of The Presbyterian Church in Canada?*
  • Are you a professional genealogist researching on behalf of a client?*
  • NOTE: In 1925, three-quarters of The Presbyterian Church in Canada became The United Church of Canada. Records of those congregations remain with the United Church Archives.

  • Is your request related to a citizenship application?*
  • ATTENTION: In order for us to assist you, the request must be specific to a geographic area, i.e. Kingston, Ontario - however, for larger cities such as Toronto, an intersection or neighborhood is necessary for us to conduct research on your behalf.

  • Multi-Choice Request for baptism, marriage, and burial records
  • Are you an Indigenous researcher, group, or individual working on behalf of an Indigenous organization?*
  • The research fee is waived for Indigenous researchers, groups, or individuals working on behalf of an Indigenous organization.

  • Upon receiving your request, a reference check will be done without charge to determine if there are relevant records in our holdings. If potential records have been identified, you will be asked to provide payment via our payment portal. For searches involving records from 1925 or earlier, a research fee of $50.00 will apply; for records from 1926 or later, a research fee of $30.00 will apply.

Once the reference check is complete, payment is required before the archivist begins the search. If records are located, a digital copy will be provided. The research fee is non-refundable, even if the search does not locate any records. Research is limited to a maximum of one request, per researcher. If further research is required, it is the responsibility of the researcher to schedule an appointment or hire a local researcher.
  • Services and Fees for General Research:

Reference service is provided for all research requests. If it is determined that we have the relevant material to search for your request, we will charge a research service fee. Payment is required before the archivist begins the search. A link to the payment portal will be provided via email. Research Service Fee of $30.00/hour for up to 2 hours of research, per researcher, for the year. Copies of any relevant material found will be provided. If more extensive research is required, it is the responsibility of the researcher to schedule an appointment or hire a local researcher.
