    Aloha and Welcome to Hui Wa'a O Puget Sound. Please select from the following membership options:

    • Adult (over 18yrs) - This is our standard individual adult membership, and gives access to all practices, club OC1 and OC2 usage, and race crew tryouts (sprint regatta and long distance).
    • Youth (18yrs & under) - This is referred to as our Keiki (12yrs & under) and Juniors (13-18yrs) program.  The season includes all practices and sprint regattas. Long distance season may be included if the race organizers offer short courses.
    • Recreational - The recreational paddler option is open for individuals looking for lighter workouts and only to join recreational practice days. Rec paddlers are able to join a regular practice day, but please be prepared for a higher intensity work out.
    • KWAC Affiliate - In partnership with the KWAC affiliate program HWOPS offers a reduced membership cost to paddlers already registered with an affiliated KWAC club. This includes all standard adult membership access.
    • Family Plan - We offer a Family Plan intended to encourage our youth parent / guardians to also join! The Family Plan offers membership up to 2 parent/guardians with at least (1) youth member and will cover any additional youth family members within your household.

  • Hui Wa’a O Puget Sound - Code of Conduct

    Hui Wa’a O Puget Sound is built upon the values of Aloha (love, respect, and compassion) and Lokahi (unity, harmony, and working together). As members, we commit to upholding these values in all aspects of our participation—whether on the water, within our community, or in our interactions with others.

    Member Expectations


    1. Respect for Culture and Tradition

    • Honor and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture by respecting its traditions, practices, and protocols in outrigger canoe paddling.
    • Recognize the cultural significance of outrigger canoeing and commit to learning about its history and values.

    2. Good Sportsmanship and Conduct

    • Demonstrate respect, integrity, and fairness in all interactions, both on and off the water.
    • Encourage and uplift teammates, opponents, and the broader paddling
      community.
    • Avoid negative or unsportsmanlike behavior, including excessive aggression,
      disrespectful language, or actions that undermine the spirit of competition.

    3. Commitment to Lokahi (Working Together)

    • Support and work together as a team, recognizing that success is built on unity and cooperation.
    • Be reliable and committed to practice schedules, race participation, and team
      responsibilities.
    • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members, regardless of skill level or background.

    4. Active Participation and Contribution

    • Engage in at least one organizational affair, such as fundraising, paddling,
      community service, leadership roles, or providing general support.
    • Contribute to the overall well-being and growth of the organization.

    5. Responsibility and Safety

    • Follow all safety protocols and respect the guidance of coaches, steerspersons, and leadership.
    • Attendance to Practice and Races should be free of drugs/alcohol and members should be prepared for the physical activity.
    • Take care of club equipment and shared resources.
    • Report any unsafe or inappropriate behavior to club leadership.

    6. Respect for Others and Community

    • Treat all members, coaches, race officials, and community partners with
      kindness and respect.
    • Be an ambassador for Hui Wa’a O Puget Sound and the broader outrigger canoe community.

    Disciplinary Action

    Any conduct deemed detrimental to the spirit and values of Hui Wa’a O Puget Sound may result in disciplinary action as determined by the Board of Directors. This may include warnings, suspension, or removal from the organization, depending on the severity of the behavior.

    1) Yearly registration fee paid to the club. Details are listed below.

    2) KWAC membership fee. $20; The Kenmore Waterfront Activities Center (KWAC) helps run our park programs and is our representative with the City of Kenmore where our canoe club is located. This small fee ensures our program continues at the park. Additional details can be found on the KWAC link below.
