Monitoring the clinical signs of diabetes mellitus is crucial to any treatment strategy. This Diabetic Clinical Score chart can be completed before or at the time of each assessment to provide a score out of 12. A lower score indicates better
diabetic control. This can help assess a diabetic cat’s health and response to treatment and indicate when a change in treatment may be needed.

Attitude/activity

*Poor appetite and lethargy (low energy) can be signs of an illness such as diabetic ketoacidosis. Caregivers should contact the veterinary clinic if these signs are noted or others such as vomiting/diarrhoea.
