Manual J Load Calculation: Intro to sizing heating and cooling systems
  • Manual J Load Calculation: Intro to sizing heating and cooling systems

    1 HSW
    • Course Description / Learning Objectives
    • Properly sized heating and cooling systems help ensure HVAC runs more efficiently and dehumidifiers better and may reduce system costs. Some codes, energy, and green programs also require this. Meeting some of these may make home projects eligible for credit and incentives.

This course will walk attendees through creating a "block load" heat loss/heat gain calculation using ACCA Manual J v8 procedures. It will demonstrate what areas of home construction have the greatest impact on a load and how to interpret the results of a Manual J report to select equipment size properly. This includes identifying if a home is a strong candidate for zoning or multi-stage equipment. We will also discuss what role these requirements in play in residential green building program requirements like LEED for Homes and etc.

      Learning Objectives

      • Understand the importance of accurate room-by-room calculations to ensure optimal indoor air quality health outcomes in a home while achieving LEED BD+C V4 Energy & Atmosphere Prereq Minimum Energy Performance.
      • Analyze the structural features of a home to enhance safety measures during modeling and system installations.
      • Introduce advanced technologies for obtaining home dimensions to improve overall welfare and comfort for residents while meeting LEED BD+C V4 Energy & Atmosphere Prereq Minimum Energy Performance
      • Articulate the results of Manual J reports clearly to help homeowners make informed decisions about their heating and cooling systems and how they comply with LEED BD+C V4 Energy & Atmosphere Prereq Minimum Energy Performance.
