Old Agoura is cherished for its peaceful equestrian-friendly environment, which encourages families, pedestrians, and equestrians alike to enjoy the neighborhood each day. Unfortunately, everyone's safety is increasingly threatened by reckless driving, notably speeding and disrespectful behavior towards people and horses.
Recently, a pedestrian was hit by a car on Driver Avenue, a distressing event that serves as a grave reminder of the escalating danger on our local roads. This incident reflects a growing disregard for the safety and sanctity of our neighborhood. It is not just an isolated accident; it underscores a pattern that has left neighbors increasingly anxious for the safety of their loved ones and animals.
To address these mounting concerns, we are calling for immediate action from the local authorities. Firstly, the installation of speed humps and/or bumps at strategic locations on Old Agoura streets, such as Driver, Foothill and Fairview, will naturally calm traffic, causing drivers to reduce speed and pay more attention. Additionally, installing a raised crosswalk at Lewis and Driver is essential, providing a safe passage for pedestrians crossing the road and visually alerting drivers to the presence of a pedestrian zone.
Moreover, increasing police presence in the neighborhood, especially during peak hours when children, families, and riders are most likely to be outside, will help deter reckless driving. Regular patrols can enforce traffic regulations more effectively, reminding drivers of the community’s expectations and obligations.
Together, these measures will play a critical role in preserving the character and safety of Old Agoura. We cannot afford to wait until a tragedy occurs. Immediate implementation of traffic calming and safety measures is crucial to protect our residents and maintain the charm and security of our cherished community.
Please join us in urging the City of Agoura Hills and LA County Sheriffs to take swift action by signing this petition. Our community’s safety and peace of mind depend on it. Every signature counts towards making Old Agoura a safer place for everyone.
